Both these stations are on the North Downs line which doesn't have a very frequent stopping service so check the train times! Other possibilities on direct trains from London would be Godalming or Farnham which are both small, old towns. Thanks for your prompt response and wonderful ideas.
You mentioned a footpath from Gomshall to Shere. Is it well marked so that once we get off the train we can easily walk to Shere?

Doesn't look like the guided tours are available in the winter time but the area looks perfect for exploring along with Shere. TY so much. Shere is in a country area so you ideally need a map to find your way from the station to the village unless you walk along the main road.
Alternatively you could try www. The problem this Saturday might be the weather as we currently have about a foot of snow which may not have melted by Saturday. If it has melted then it will be muddy! As Railenthusiast says the mud will be the problem. It was pretty muddy before this dump of snow.
