Cliched and predictable, but with touches that make it special like asking the fox to behave, and two pairs of wooly socks I've not been overly impressed by other Butterworth books, but I do want to find more about Percy.
This is my favourite picture book from childhood - the story is so warming and welcoming and I can still remember the cosy feeling it creates. The illustrations are wonderfully complimentary and Percy the Park Keeper is a well-loved protagonist. Although not challenging in its subject matter, it's the perfect book to read to children on a sleepy afternoon! Mar 24, ABC rated it really liked it Recommends it for: kids.
Shelves: younger-kids. Very cute story about animals that come in from the cold to get warm in Percy's bed. First of all Secondly, this is a sweet children's book centered around a park-keeper who lives in a "hut. He had soooo mannnnny questions. ALL the questions. Mostly in the difference between cabins and huts.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, kids are so weird. So we talked a lot about huts. Other than that the book is about a bunch of cold animals asking to go inside to sleep in a warm place. My son ad First of all My son adored how it ended spoiler! All the animals get a snug place to sleep just perfect for them : Adorable. Highly recommend as a sweet bedtime story.
Dec 05, Emily rated it it was amazing. I read this recently, even though it's a kids book, and still enjoyed it. It is about a park ranger who is going to bed one very cold night. Then, animals keep knocking on his door because of how cold they are. The ranger kindly allows them to stay, even though he has barely enough room.
He even lets a fox in, even though there were squirrels and rabbits. This book teaches generosity, not judging, and kindness. I gave it 5 stars because of the cute story and cute pictures. Good for 1st grade and I read this recently, even though it's a kids book, and still enjoyed it. Good for 1st grade and up. Sweet enough. My sister and I used to argue over this book One of my favorite picture books for my daughter. Loved the illustrations and the story. Dec 25, Dominika rated it it was amazing. Enjoyable story.
Lots of good friend fit even into a small home. Feb 26, Megan rated it it was amazing Shelves: maeve-s-books. Another gift from Scotland, my two year old adores Percy and his animal friends. She knows this entire book by heart. We bought two more Percy books because she enjoys this one so much. She loves the pullout poster at the end. Our favorite book for a snowy winter's night.

Feb 25, Anna rated it it was amazing Shelves: preschool-lit , favorite-nostalgic-children-s-books. Cuddly, silly and heartwarming. Reminds me of Jan Brett's "The Mitten", in a good way. Btw, he reminded me of the man, who narrated my version of Letters from Father Christmas by J. Tolkien , will found his name later. Maybe it's him So, thank you, Google. You know, what I need I can save a little and buy something else, yay! Overall, it was a lovely story of kindness and help. I really liked the art work as well that page with mole If you're looking for cute little wintery story to read to your kiddo and yourself, I can recommend this one.
Especially, since you can do that for free. I'm into picture books atm, because I'm in love with them thanks you for inspiration, Rose Mannering and also because I have a flue and my brain can't process anything with more than sentences per page. I need pictures! Hope everyone of you is healthy today. Feb 17, Bisma Amir rated it it was amazing. The award-winning author and illustrator Nick Butterworth has created a series of tales from Percy's Park about Percy the park keeper and all the animals that he takes care of. This book doesn't disappoint!! Beautifully written, it includes speech marks to help children understand the formation of speech and the wording is easy to follow.
There are a few words from the book that may be difficult for children to read but through decoding words phonetically it's an absolute dream to read! The stor The award-winning author and illustrator Nick Butterworth has created a series of tales from Percy's Park about Percy the park keeper and all the animals that he takes care of. The story is about a snowy night and all the animals in the park arrive at Percy's hut to get shelter because its so cold outside. All of the animals then get into Percy's bed one by one and it 'was just not enough room for them all. Such a lovely winters tale makes me want to grab a hot cocoa and sit by a fireplace!
It immerses you as the reader through its comforting illustrations and the story's sense of family and friends. An amazing stroy by Nick Butterworth, I will return to it on a cold winter night! Aug 22, Tanya rated it it was amazing Shelves: picture-book , books , kidsbooks-3plus , hard-to-find , kidsbooks.
I really liked this one and had to get it through the inter library loan. Later, I discovered another reviewer linked a YouTube video that shows all illustrations and was pleasantly narrated. This is a feel good book, kindness expressed and room for all. Percy the park keeper is great at sharing and always has a smile on his face, so it is a very welcoming book to a young child. Glad to discover this one. But one cold winter 19s night Percy discovers that his little friends need more than food, and he must think of a way to help them find a warm place to sleep for the night.
Percy 19s hut is nice and warm, but he discovers that if you invite one animal in you 19ll have to invite them all in. With Percy's small hut 14they are certainly going to be squashed! Sep 09, Tamara rated it it was amazing. I don't know where I got this one, but we love it!
The illustrations are too perfect--I almost want to frame the one of the little mole sitting on a hot water bottle! There's just enough build up and suspense and then a good ending. Perfect for little, little ones. And so cozy! I can't wait to get more Percy the Park Keeper books! Aug 19, Kate B rated it really liked it. Too recently published for me to have enjoyed this in childhood, one of the things I like best about this book is the picture of all the animals squashed in wherever there was room.
It always reminds me of what my children's beds looked like when they were small: overflowing with soft toys of many species.
